"Choses secrètes" is enormously entertaining with two thoroughly captivating leads. The delectably twisted fable centers on two penniless but shapely young women who set out to better their social station by manipulating men. Sabrina Seyvecou, who turns in a spellbinding performance, has a sort of Heather Grahamish innocence and sexiness to her and, along with Coralie Revel, provides some of the most titillating scenes seen in a mainstream movie in many years. It's so refreshing to see a truly adult film these days. Not to mention, a film that doesn't just say it is erotic, it goes ahead and proves it. This is not a film for prudes, for those who are easily offended. But for adults who are willing to see some frank discussion about sex and some deliciously devious sexual politics, this film provides wonderful entertainment.

Nouky, an artist, is the mistress of Claude. To tease him she gets acquainted with his wife Emilienne who runs an art gallery and persuades her to model for her drawings. Things get a little out of hand when this turns into a lesbian relationship and the concept of a love triangle is tested to the full. Thanks to our Betty's haunted performance, sex scenes such as her discovery of the joys of Sapphic romance in the arms of a small legion of blonde and buxom Widows of the Sea (don't ask how this came about, just sit back and enjoy) end up far more stimulating than they might have been. Another aspect that puts this movie apart from most other titillation romps is its dim view of marital bliss with some of the harrowing scenes in its middle section (when the protagonists attempt a 3-way marriage with disastrous results) playing like Strindberg Lite.

PLOT: Xiao Qun is a 30-ish single woman constantly harangued by her mother over the phone to get married, and quick. She takes solace in her job as an elephant keeper at the zoo, and has her own flat in the big city, far away from mom. While shopping one day, Xiao Qun flirts with Xiao Ling (Tou Shi), a clothing designer she meets at a mall selling her wares. Of course, just when things seem to be going well, and the two women establish a relationship and move in together, mom shows up from the country intent on finding a nice man for Xiao Qun to marry.

Kate has been sailing the seas of love searching for the woman of her dreams. Meanwhile Kate's love life isn't nearly as exciting. She has a crush on Hannah. When the women are together Kate suspects Hannah feels the same. But Hannah has a boyfriend. Daisy lives in a small village in the Philippines, and as the daughter of the local circumciser, she is taught the trade by her father. This makes her different from other girls, and she grows up with an awareness of gender roles and sexism. Her own father beats both Daisy and her mother, and she vows not to go along with an arranged marriage to the son of a successful farmer.
Meanwhile, Daisy's best friend Botchok is thrown out of the house, humiliated by her father and abandoned by her boyfriend. In love with Botchok, Daisy tells her friend that she will marry her. Unsure at first, Botchok warms to the idea and moves in with Daisy.
